To become a Deputy Commissioner, you must join as an Assistant Superintendent of the police department by qualifying the Civil Service Examination. The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Civil Service Exam every year.

Physical Criteria

  • Men height – 165cm
  • Women height- 150 cm
  • For men, the relaxable height is 160cm, and for women, it is 145 cm for people belonging to ST and other races such as Assamese, Gorkhas, Nagaland Tribals, Kumaonis, Garhwalias, etc.

  • Minimum chest – Men and women is 84 cm and 79cm.
  • Myopia should be within minus 4.00D (including cylinder)
  • Hypermyopia should be within plus 4.00D (including cylinder)

    Squint is a disqualification, but spectacles are acceptable. Distant vision for an eye should be 6/6 or 6/9 as corrected vision, and Distant vision for a worse eye should be 6/12 or 6/9 as uncorrected vision. Near vision must respectively be J1 and J2. The vision’s high-grade color is a must, and there is a binocular vision needed.

    Nationality

  • Must be an Indian citizen, subject of Nepal, subject of Bhutan.
  • A Tibetan refugee arriving in India before 1 January 1962 and is in India as a permanent settlement.
  • A migrant from other countries to settle in India includes Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan, Uganda, East African countries of Kenya, Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire, and Vietnam.
  • Educational Qualification:

    A Bachelor's degree from a recognized university or to possess an equivalent qualification.

    Age Limit:

    Minimum 21 years and Maximum 32 years. There is relaxation in age limit of 5 years for SC/ST candidates. The candidates from Jammu& Kashmir state, Defence Services Personnel, Ex-servicemen, ECOs/SSCOs completing Military Service of 5 years, OBC candidates get 3 years and up to 10 years relaxation for deaf-mute, blind, and orthopedically handicapped people.
